There are over 40,000 muscles and tendons in an elephants’ trunk. All those muscles make their trunk strong enough to pick up huge logs, but also flexible enough do something as delicate as picking a flower.

The Zoo is open all year long. Closed the first Saturday in June for Zoobilation, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

GATE HOURS

  • January 1 to March 31: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. You may stay on grounds until 4 p.m.
  • April 1 to October 31: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You may stay on grounds until 5 p.m. (Zoo opens at 9:30 a.m. for Zoo members.)
  • November 1 to December 31: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. You may stay on grounds until 4 p.m.
