HYBRID WHITE-FACED WHISTLING DUCK

(Dendrocygna viduata x bicolor)

There are six of these ducks residing in with our African black-footed penguins. They arrived in 2014 from the Palm Beach Zoo. In the winter months, you can find them in the Zoo's Aviary in the Main Building.

HABITAT

These ducks live in freshwater lakes, streams, marshes and other flooded areas in the Sub-Saharan Africa and South America. The bicolor species can also be found in the Indian subcontinent, as well as Central America and the Southern U.S.

DIET

These birds feed on grains, seeds, crustaceans, mollusks, aquatic insects and plants.
