Rainbow boa (Epicrates cenchria)
The Zoo's rainbow boa, Queen, was born in 1989 and arrived here in 2006.
Status in the Wild
International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List status: Unlisted. The rainbow boa does not have any special status as they reproduce naturally across a majority of Northern South America.
They live in humid tropical forests and savannas of Colombia, Northern Venezuela and Northern Guiana.
The rainbow boas are carnivorous (meat eaters) and feed on small mammals, birds and reptiles.
